Which providers offer broadband only deals?

Almost all UK broadband providers offer some form of broadband only deal. For some UK homes, connections will still need to be made with a phone line, but nowadays, you won’t usually be charged line rental as an additional cost.

And of course, most of the big providers now offer full fibre connections to a good number of UK properties, too. So, if the service is available to your home, you can also choose a broadband-only deal with them.

SIM only deals

Whether you need more or less data each month, with Sky Mobile you can change your plan to make sure it always suits your lifestyle.

Mobile networks with the best coverage

The latest coverage figures from Opensignal* for the big four networks are:

  • Three: 99.4%
  • EE: 99.0%
  • O2: 98.0%
  • Vodafone: 97.0%

To find out what coverage you can get where you are, put your postcode into Ofcom’s coverage checker. That means Three’s network covers more UK locations than any other provider. SMARTY and iD Mobile also operate on Three’s network, so they’ll offer the same coverage.

Should I buy a SIM-free phone and pair it with a SIM only deal?

Buying a phone outright, also known as SIM-free, can be a smart way to save money in the long run, especially when paired with a good value SIM only deal. It gives you more flexibility and means you’re not tied into a lengthy contract.
If a brand-new handset is out of budget, consider a refurbished phone. These professionally tested and restored devices often look and perform like new, but come at a much lower price.

FAQ's

What’s the difference between a contract plan and a SIM only deal?

A SIM only deal gives you data, call and text packages without purchasing a handset, making it ideal if you have a phone you're content with. These plans are significantly cheaper than monthly contracts. Unlike contracts, SIM only plans don't require a long-term commitment, and they often allow changes or cancellations after 30 days. The lack of a lengthy commitment also means simplified credit checks, making it an efficient and fuss-free option.

Do I have to pass a credit check for a monthly phone contract?

Obtaining a new phone contract might not appear as significant as a mortgage or credit card, but it still involves a credit check. Some providers conduct these checks to ensure your ability to meet payment obligations.

Do I have to pay an upfront cost for a contract phone?

The upfront cost for a phone contract varies based on the device you opt for. High-end brands often require an upfront payment of at least £50 in addition to the monthly contract payment. If the initial payment is a concern, alternatives, including contracts with no upfront fees, are available on selected phones.
